This illustrated book is for anybody who is interested in finding out about the real face of Islam. This first volume of the illustrated book series is about the life of Muhammad the Islamic prophet, in Mecca before migrating to Medina and is based on Islamic literatures, such as Al-Qur'an, ahadith (collections of Muhammad's sayings and actions), and the earliest Siras (biography of Muhammad). This illustrated book will help people to understand Islam quickly, accurately, and without spending too much time reading the whole Islamic main literatures that are hard to understand. For instance, it is not possible to understand the Qur'an fully without tafsir (interpretation) and Asbab al-Nuzul (circumstances of the revelation) since it has no chronology and the subject matters keep changing with no warning. There are so many ahadith and Sira books that it takes a lot of time to read them all. This illustrated book relies on the earliest Siras, such as the writings of Ibn Ishaq/Ibn Hisham, Ibn Sa'd, Thabari, Waqidi and Halabiya. Please visit prophetmuhammadillustrated.com
Biography of the Prophet Muhammad Illustrated Volume 1 eBook Abdullah ibn Abi Sarh
I read this graphic novel on an iPad 1. I found it a bit easier to read than my 21-in iMac. That's because I could zoom in and vary the reading distance for my middle-aged presbyopic eyes. The books that Sarh references in this book (the Quran, Hadith, and ibn Ishaq's The Life of Muhammad) would take a long time to read, much less master and understand it. What Abdullah ibn Abi Sarh has done is to do the most difficult part of a historical inquirer and produced an easy to read graphic novel that's an entertaining read for the average person. The book was well foot-noted so that the layperson wanting to verify what was said and done can check the sources Sarh used in this book: the Quran, Hadith, and ibn Ishaq's The Life of Muhammad.

Biography of the Prophet Muhammad Illustrated Volume 1 eBook Abdullah ibn Abi Sarh Reviews
The content of the book is the most disgusting, demented, filthy I have ever witnessed--illustrations and text. Piece of crap. No other book has caused me to be on the verge of vomiting. I don't understand how anyone can recommend this book. I think people posting here must be shills. Not worth more than 50¢, including shipping. No title page; amateurish; looks self-published--some party out to make a buck while offering little of redeeming value. Hitler's writings are "a day in the park" compared to the content of this book. Instead, use the money to buy an authentic book on Islam. This book has the cooties. Ugh! I may go in the backyard and burn it.
Abdullah ibn Abi Sarh's Biography of the Prophet Muhammad - Illustrated is an aesthetically appealing and easy to comprehend biography that unearths the real history of the legendary Prophet Muhammad. While there are many scriptures of Islam (e.g., Qur'an, Hadith, Siras, etc.); examining them either requires extensive amounts of time, or they are often too complex and sometimes prone to misconceptions. Abi Sarh addresses these issues in order to make the history of Islam easier to understand for Muslim youth, educators, and anyone interested in learning more about the lore of the Prophet Muhammad.
While this text touches on extremely sensitive global and national topics of terrorism, Biography of the Prophet Muhammad - Illustrated is thoroughly educational. Following the September 11th attacks, there has been a constant dichotomy facing Islam and its followers. For example, some Muslims state that Islam is a peaceful religion, yet there continues to be bloodshed in the name of Islam and jihad.
Abdullah ibn Abi Sarh's purpose in writing this book is three-fold "First, because there is so much persecution and suffering in the name of Islam, the second reason is because there is no other illustrator who dares to create a biography of Muhammad," and finally, "this illustrated book will help people to understand Islam quickly, accurately, and without spending too much time reading the whole Islamic main literatures that are hard to understand." Essentially, the author is trying to portray Islam as it was perceived through the unfiltered eyes of the Prophet Muhammad.
The book is fascinating because of the creativity that Abdullah utilizes in developing the structure of the text. Despite dealing with extremely sensitive religious and cultural issues, Abdullah ibn Abi Sarh's illustrations and animations put readers at ease. At the same time, the text has a format similar to a comic book, which is less intimidating for readers. While there is nothing comic about the topic of Islam, terror, and mainly the Prophet Muhammad, it is more probable that younger generations will be more inclined to read something formatted thusly, rather than dense, time-consuming scriptures that can seem rather daunting and difficult to understand.
This account of the life of the Prophet Muhammad begins with the death of his father, Abdullah--while Muhammad is still in the womb. Overcome with depression, his mother Amina gives Muhammad to Halimah, who nursed him for the first five years of his life, before returning him to his mother out of fear that his constant seizures were a sign of demonic possession.
Throughout the illustrations, the author weaves scripture from the Koran. When the Bajilis steal Muhammad's camels, he refers to the Qur'an 5.33 "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land; that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter."
Overall, Abdullah ibn Abi Sarh's Biography of the Prophet Muhammad - Illustrated is a thought-provoking book, and an ideal introduction to further studies or research into Islam and the Muslim culture. Simply formatted, this is a must read for all, particularly for Muslims, educators, historians, and anyone interested in learning about the legendary figures of Islam, Prophet Muhammad.
Caveat Emptor Most muslim's will find this work to be highly insulting to their faith and beliefs. I would not purchase this book with the expectation of an unbiased illustrated biography of the prophet (peace be upon him). This work is meant to be a apologists view of the history of islam up until the Hijra (migration). It casts the prophet in a very negative light, depicting him is a liar, a sadist, a criminal, an epileptic, a pedophile, a male gold-digger, sexually deviant, and possessed by the devil.
That being said, I would not recommend this book to someone who want's to genuinely learn about Islam. Reading this book to learn about islam would be akin to reading Richad Dawkin's "The God Delusion" to learn about theology. The book is not really a biography. It is essentially a series of highly selected chronological events from the birth of the prophet up until the migration from Mecca to Medina. The event's that the author chose to illustrate do have some basis in islamic history and literature. However, most of these events are not slam dunk historical events. Most are either highly disputed, or require further reading to understand the background. The biography is loaded with controversial (i.e The Kiling of Umm Qirfa), disproved (the moon god theory), or apocryphal accounts (i.e the Satanic Verses). The list goes on and on.... Most of these 'events' are footnotes in the true biography of the prophet (PBUH).
Bottom Line Staunch Muslims will not enjoy this book. However, open minded muslims who can go beyond the negative depictions of the prophet (PBUH) will see this book as platform for further reading, which is essential to put the events into proper historical context. It is a short read. The illustrations are surprisingly well done (though, as a muslim, my gut reaction was to balk at many of the depictions of the prophet and his companions). Because of the heavily biased depiction of events, I would not recommend this book to non-muslims looking to learn more about the the fundamentals of Islam.
This book is a very excellent one, portraying Mohammed, the founder of Islam. No political correctness in this book. If you want to know Islam quickly yet still quite accurately, read this book. Had it not been for a too dark background in the pictures, I will give this book a 5-star.
I eagerly await the second volumn. I have known a number of the stories presented in this book for some time now. But the subjects come to life with this book.
Awesome book. This is the kind of books that i love to read. Very well written and articulated by author
