Thanks to a “gift” of six supernatural entities that he can summon to do his bidding, Arthur MacInerny doesn’t age or become ill because their energy mingles with his own.
It sounds great, right? It is, until you start burying the people you love.
Pushed to the edge by loss and a ruthless act of violence, Arthur and his gang of summoned entities strike out. They show the world what kind of devastation comes to those who wrong this wielder of souls.
But revenge doesn’t go as planned. There are those that bump back against the things that go bump in the night. Arthur finds himself arrested. He’s put on trial for atrocities and misuse of magic.
If that wasn’t enough, Arthur finds he’s been betrayed, played for a fool, and used as a pawn in a wicked game.
First of an envisioned six part series, that now appears to have grown to eight parts.
Betrayal Book One of the Wielder Series eBook David Gosnell
Dark, urban fiction that looks at the depths of man's souls and weighs them in the balance.Themes include betrayal, revenge, and rehabilitation --
Without going into too much detail, the Wielder is an immortal man who has few powers of his own but travels with a group of "other-worldly" creatures, including a werewolf like dog, a fairy, a succubus, and a leprechaun just to name a few. He also travels with magical creatures that are unique to this world, and that gave things an interesting twist. Each member of his clan has his or her own powers, and they work together as a team. He can summon or dismiss members of his team at will using tattoos on his arm.
The thing that struck me about this book, and what makes it different from other urban fiction books I have read, is the author's ability to touch on deep emotions to the point that you say, "Yes, that's it!" Anyone who has lost a loved one can relate to the first chapter, in which Arthur buries his wife. He is in mourning throughout much of this book, but not in an over-the-top sort of way. His grief hits him in waves, and I've found that's how grief works in real life.
You'll find everything you want in an urban fiction/tinging on horror. Evil villains. A quest. Unusual and odd magical powers. Instead of clearcut black hats and white hats, you'll find shades of gray. The book kept me hooked until the end, waiting to see what would happen to the wielder and his tribe. Give this one a try, and you won't be disappointed. I look forward to reading more books in this series.
Last, but not least, I feel a need to address the comments from other reviewers about typos. I was asked by the author for my honest opinion, and after I read it, I suggested that he go through another round of proof-reading. He has published an updated version, and after scanning the revised copy, the issues I found have been addressed. I am confident his changes improve the reader experience.

Betrayal Book One of the Wielder Series eBook David Gosnell Reviews
I like the concept of this book. The 'hero' of the story has 6 Fae/Daemonic creatures bound to him. The being who did the original binding has made it so they can never be truly free again, but he passed the bond onto our hero. three males and three females. A daemonic warlock, a leprechaun, and a hell hound are the males. The females are a warrior from a daemon concord werecat race, a size changing pixie, and a succubus.
The tale starts out a bit slow when introducing you to the world and the characters, but you do become invested in them and wind up rooting for more than one. This had some novel twists and was a very enjoyable read.
Note There are a LOT of minor spelling errors. This is the 'corrected' version. Unfortunately, it looks like someone ran a blind spellcheck and auto replaced. You'll see things like 'the' instead of 'they', etc. If you fixate on this, your OCD will drive you mad before you're done.
Five sentences! That's all it took. Five sentences and I was hooked!
So I read more. Before finishing the first two pages I had tears in my eyes. "What manner of sorcery is this?" I thought to myself. Then it struck me... This was one helluva good story written by a wordsmith someone who knew how to use words to paint a picture so vividly that it was like watching a video, describing each character so well that they seemed real, and, ultimately, making it impossible for me to put the book down.
I've been tracking my reading on Goodreads.com this year. I've been reading quite a bit. This book is the 115th book I've read so far in 2015. It is also probably the most memorable and satisfying book I've read this year. I'm looking forward to reading the other titles in the series.
I got this book for free after seeing it on a free book list. I did not know the author or the series but I enjoy paranormal stories so I thought I would like this. The book was a good read and I was deeply invested in what was going to happen to the main character. The main character (Arthur) appears 19 years old, but is actually in his 90's because he was given certain magical gifts that are both blessing and curse. The magical gift given to him consisted of magical creatures that can be summoned via glyphs on Arthur's forearm. The creatures are Arix (a sorcerer from Heltzeren); Sil (A succubus); Vets (a female catlike warrior); Shey (a fairy); and Phiff (a leprechaun); and Hjuul (a wolf beast). It is interesting to learn about the relationship between the wielder (Arthur) and his summonlings (the magical creatures). The creatures' acclimation into modern society is sometimes comical, but their connection to the wielder is sometimes palpable.
Got this one for free so didn't quite know what to expect. I liked it.
Arthur McInerny is immortal. In fact he looks like he's nineteen when he's almost a hundred years old.
He's just buried his wife who died at ninety four. He loved that woman and posed as her caretaker for the last ten years of her life.
His kids know all about Arthur. About how old he really is and about the siegels on his arm. Siegels that are really supernatural others that he commands and carries with him when they aren't with him in their forms.
Arthur got those others when he save the life of a strange man. The man gifted the siegels to him and left.
The others are a pixie, a huge wolf like dog, a leprechan, a sucubus who's always trying for sex with Arthur, a huge cat like female warrior and a mage. They do whatever Arthur wants. He's their master.
Now Arthur isn't a hard master, in fact he's pretty laid back and thinks of the others a family. A strange family but part of his real family none the less.
After Arthur buries his wife he moved to New Orleans to take over one of his many business's.
So begins one pretty darned good read.
This one has Arthur, the others, the death of Arthur's son and his wife, threats from a demon, the pretoriate, a mage, a demon bound to that mage, betrayal and one pretty damned good read.
Five Stars.
